Design checkers and technical experts

What it does

Two quality-control steps required by Romanian law, carried out by specialists licensed by the ministry.

• the design checker checks the design before the permit and construction, against the essential quality requirements (for example strength and stability, fire safety, energy saving);
• the technical expert assesses an existing building: the condition of the structure, what can be done with it and what needs strengthening;
• expert reports for extensions, added storeys, attic conversions, changes of use and strengthening;
• expert reports for regularising buildings without a permit.

When you need it

• for designs subject to a permit: checking is mandatory depending on the building's consequence class (for CC1, technical checking is not mandatory);
• for any work on an existing building: the technical expert report is the basis of the design.

How we work together

We prepare the design so that it passes the check the first time: complete calculations and clear details. For existing buildings, we design on the basis of the conclusions of the technical expert report.
