Specialty
Geotechnical studies
Ground investigations and recommendations for safe foundations.
What it does
The geotechnical engineer finds out what kind of ground lies under the building and how much it can carry.
- boreholes and trial pits on site, with sampling;
- laboratory tests: soil type, moisture content, strength and settlement;
- groundwater level and ground hazards: landslides, collapsible soils, soils that swell and shrink strongly;
- the geotechnical report, with recommendations for the type and depth of the foundation.
When you need it
- before designing the foundations of any new building: the geotechnical report is part of the building permit documentation;
- for extensions or added storeys, when the existing foundations have to be checked;
- on sloping ground, near water or on made ground.
ℹ️ Checking
In Romania, the geotechnical report is checked by a design checker licensed for requirement Af (strength and stability of the foundation ground).
How we work together
Based on the geotechnical report we design the foundations: type, depth and dimensions. A good report avoids both oversized foundations (wasted money) and undersized ones (cracks and settlement).
